Making Progress

Today started out with 3 Main Goals- Getting Oscar out of bed into a chair for 30 mins at a time, atleast 5 times, make a lap around the nurses station atleast a few times, and most important..CONTROL HIS PAIN. So far, we accomplished big time. His pain level is down to a 1. He has gotten up and sat in the chair 3 times already and he has also made trips around the nurses station, not once but 3 times at one time and another time he gotten up and walked 4 times around. Awesomeness. So things are looking up- I am headed home this evening to spend some time with my Talan and get a nice shower. I shall return in the morning. Fairwell-

Day 2 at MDA

The day started with Oscar feeling good UNTIL they decided to take his Epidural out due to his blood pressure decreasing. So they opted to pain meds through the IV. Well, the pain meds through the IV are just not strong enough to knock the pain out. Poor Oscar has been in pain most of the day..right about now at 7:47pm his pain level is about a 6 on a scale of 1-10, 10 being the worst so the Pain Assesment team are working on his pain. In the meantime, I have a running nose...haha and I can't catch it, all day I have been using tissue after tissue and I felt like I kept losing the one I just grabbed. Little did I know I kept dropping them all over the room when I would get up to get something for THE PATIENT and some were even in my front pockets of my hoodie. My sister came to visit and we went down and had lunch and Oscar said one of his nurses asked whos tissues are all of these?? Ooops, I would have picked them up if I would have known I was losing them all over the room. Not to mention, once I went to the vending machine to grab a drink and as I pulled my hands out of my hoodie pockets, a lady said ma'm you dropped something and looked down and it was more tissue.....needless to say I am desperate to catch this nose of mine and ready for it to stop running. :)

Now back to the PATIENT, he is watching the stupidest stuff on tv, I mean really ughhh they need to update their cable channels. Well, I'm sure hoping they get him comfortable enough so he can get some sleep and it would be nice if I could get some too. I am sure I will let you know how the night goes tomorrow. Finally!

Today was the BIG day, Oscar finally had his Bilateral Adrenalectomy. We started our day off by waking up at 3:30am, leaving the house at 4:00am and arrived at M.D. Anderson around 5:00am and checked in. They took Oscar back to get him prepared for the surgery shortly after 5:45am. From there he began his journey to the OPERATING ROOM- where all the good action happened. At 8:02am the incision was made and surgery began......at 12:30pm-I got word that the surgery went well and they were closing the incision site. Waiting...Waiting...And More waiting after that for hour or so until Dr. Grubbs came and spoke to me (she was the operating doctor!) She told me that his adrenal glands where very large like the size of grapefruit when normal is a little bigger than a quarter. WOW..At 5:00pm we were finally settled into a small room on the 3rd floor. Whew- I'm sleepy! Now-It is 20 after 6pm and they are in the middle of giving him an epidural, literally in front of me. Poor thing. I hope this works and his pain will be taken away. His incision sight is pretty long going across his stomach right above his rib cage. He is such a trooper. So long til next time....I have to take care of my hubby love. =}
